Targeted Communities
MHP also provides sustained, in-depth assistance to communities to create affordable housing.
MHP's focus is on new production and primarily on smaller affordable rental housing developments of up to 25 units. MHP will help communities and housing authorities on issues such as developing public land, disposing of land to a third party for development and advising developers on how to finance the affordable component of a project.
MHP's assistance has resulted in the production of housing in communities across the state. Most recently, MHP has helped produce housing in Amherst, Groton, Northampton, Springfield and Westford. Communities that are in the process of producing housing include Bedford, Harwich, Hingham, Provincetown, Truro and Westport.
Here are some recent examples of MHP's work in communities:
Amherst HA develops 8 units
With help from MHP, Amherst Housing Authority adds four new units and preserves four others.
Chatham HA turns land into 52 units
With affordable supply dwindling, Chatham Housing Authority uses seven acres of its land to create more housing.
Groton housing authority add units
Inclusionary zoning bylaw nets 9 affordable rental units.
Springfield neighborhood revitalized
MHP worked with the city and residents to shape the revival of neighborhood plagued by abandoned properties.
